Working Through the Trauma

Overcoming trauma can be difficult, but there are some steps you can take to help.

  1. Acknowledge and accept what has happened without judgement. This can be hard to do, but it is important to recognize that trauma is a normal response to an abnormal situation.

  2. Seek support from people you trust. Talking to family, friends, or a therapist can help you process your emotions.

  3. Practice self-care. Taking time for yourself to rest, relax, and do activities you enjoy can help you feel more in control.

  4. Develop healthy coping strategies. This could include things like mindfulness, journaling, positive self-talk, or exercise.

  5. Reframe your trauma. Instead of seeing it as something that happened to you or something that is holding you back, focus on how it can help you grow and learn.

  6. Set realistic goals. Celebrate small successes each day and focus your energy on things that bring you joy.

  7. Learn to forgive yourself. It’s important to remember that you are not responsible for the trauma and that it does not define you.
