You Have to Put the Shovel in the Dirt First

Every idea, dream, or goal must begin with a foundation, a blueprint, or a model of some sort. Otherwise, they will remain exactly what they are: just ideas, dreams, and goals. Some of us get wrapped up in the tedious details, while many of us rush ahead straight to the reward factor. But how many of us actually plant the seed, care for the sprout, monitor the growth, prune the dead leaves, protect its overall health, water it, and watch it grow slowly? How many of us basically repeat these steps until...BOOM! Your dream is now a reality. Your goal has been accomplished. Your idea has come to fruition.

I hope that plant analogy didn't throw you off, but that is literally what it's like to work towards what you want in life. Even after you have put the shovel in the dirt and planted that seed, that is just the beginning of the journey. So, how do you stay on track? How can I help you not only put the shovel in the dirt, but actually dig that hole, plant your seed, and watch it grow over time?

Check out my suggestions below:

1. Dig the Hole (Define Your Foundation)

Before you throw a seed into the wind and hope it takes, you have to dig a proper hole. This means setting your foundation. Get crystal clear on what you are actually trying to build. Write down your blueprint, define your "why," and create a realistic space in your daily life to actually cultivate this goal. If you don't dig the hole first, the seed has nowhere to anchor.

2. Water Regularly, But Be Patient (Embrace Consistency Over Clout)

Growth happens in the dark, beneath the soil, long before you ever see a sprout break the surface. Watering your seed means showing up for your goal every single day, even when you don't see immediate results. Consistency isn't always exciting, and it rarely gets applause. Do the boring, necessary work in stillness, and trust that the roots are forming underneath.

3. Prune the Dead Leaves (Cut the Noise and Adjust)

As your idea begins to grow, you will inevitably hit moments where things get heavy, cluttered, or off-track. Pruning means taking an honest look at what is stalling your progress. It means cutting out self-doubt, setting boundaries with people who drain your energy, or letting go of old ways of working that no longer serve your vision. You have to remove what's dying to make room for what's trying to live.

4. Protect the Soil (Guard Your Quiet Season)

A growing plant is vulnerable to the elements. When you are in the middle of building a dream, you have to protect your environment. You don't have to announce every single move you make to the world, and you don't need everyone’s validation. Keep your head down, guard your peace, protect your pocket, and let your spirit lead the way until the harvest is ready to speak for itself.

Now go get em' Tiger!!!
