The mortar and pestle is a witch's tool representing the unification of the male and the female; the phallic symbol of the pestle and the womb symbol of the mortar. Perceiving the tool as the mundane aspect of male and female, as well as the divine God and Goddess.

Although the Hamsa hand is known to bring fortune and fertility in some religions and cultures, its primary spiritual meaning is protection against the evil eye. Its most universal symbol is that of unity and protection, and in every representation.
